Well, here I am; back to the grindstone again, and the first thing I have to do is to say thanks to Avis for standing in while I was away.

You would think, when the bowls season finishes, that news would be hard to come by – but not a bit of it. There seems to be so much in the pipeline at Norwest; it’s a job to know where to start.

Our Fish and Chip Skittles League kicked off on Friday. As usual, we were organised by Keith and Dennis, who do a great job of sorting the League, running it, and then laying on the fish and chips at the end of the season. There’s always a great atmosphere at the club on these evenings, and don’t forget, you don’t have to play skittles to pop in on a Friday evening to enjoy a few bevvies and to catch up with friends.

Our Ladies’ meeting on Sunday afternoon was well attended, and saw some lively discussion on several proposals for next year’s Leagues. The meeting was kept topped up with tea, thanks to Bett, and the girls tucked into a slice of lemon cake accompanied by a good old natter after the business was concluded.

The Men’s meeting is on Sunday, 14th October at 10.30 a.m.

Our lads had a good season this year, with the A team coming in fourth in Division East One, while the B team came second in East Two, and having gained promotion, they will be joining the A team in East One next season.

So, come on, lads, make sure you come along – it’s important that you all have your say in the future of your section. I’m sorry there won’t be any cake, but I will be there with my barmaid’s ‘hat’ on to keep your spirits up!

And now some more dates for your diaries: the Club AGM will be on Sunday, 4th November at 2.30 p.m. Usually only about half of our members attend this meeting. Let’s see if we can do a bit better this year.

Likewise for our winter social evenings: please try to come along and support us.

Our first evening is on Saturday, 13th October, when we will be having a light-hearted quiz along with an American supper and raffle.

On Saturday, 17th November it will be our Presentation dinner; there’s still time to get your names down for this. I’ve popped in to see our friends at Radstock Trophies to organise the engraving, and will be getting the silver polish out a bit nearer the date, so don’t let me down, make sure you come along to collect your trophy, if you won one, otherwise just come and cheer on those who did!

The Christmas draw will take place on Saturday, 15th December. Plans are still in the pipeline for this, so ‘watch this space’ to see the format for this event.

Finally, do you realise Christmas is only about eleven weeks away? Well, this year we are going to be ‘Jumping into Christmas’ at Norwest, with a special evening to celebrate the festive season.

It’s on Saturday, 1st December and will be jam-packed with some fun games and quizzes. There will be an American supper and a raffle. And of course you can’t jump into Christmas without wearing . . . a Christmas jumper!
