It was Bank Holiday Monday last week, so club night was held on Tuesday evening, and what a turn out. Three rinks played in the Monday night competition and it was great to see seven new members getting coaching from Dave and Clive.
We had a visitor in the shape of a wrought iron pig garden ornament, which Dave and Carole Cocks had bought whilst on tour. Unable to think of a suitable name, they decided to hold a competition to ‘name the pig’. Everyone paid a pound and put in their choice of name. £45 was raised for club funds, so thanks go to Dave and Carole. The winner was Mike Poulter with the name Gladys.
Earlier in the day, the Ladies played a Mendip League game at home against Victoria (Blue) team from Weston-Super-Mare. We won on two rinks, lost on one and won overall seventy shots to 47 and gaining eight of the ten points. Well done Ladies, keep up the good work.
On Saturday morning we held our Spring plant sale and coffee morning. There was a good turn-out and everyone stocked up on plants. The plants were supplied by Della, Sue Yarlett, Celia, Shirley and Bob Jordan, and Terry Phillips, not forgetting Sue Burke who organised it all. There was an excellent raffle with prizes donated by the members. So thanks to all the people who helped and those who came and supported the club. Thanks also to Celia and Carole Cocks for serving the tea, coffee and cakes, and Janet Andrews and Thelma for sorting the raffle. Over £300 has been collected to date with more to come.
In the afternoon the men played a County League game against Keynsham C, it was a cold afternoon and Fosseway Men won on one rink, lost on two but won overall 65 shots to 52, so gained eight of the twelve points on offer.
On Thursday we are playing a mixed game against Burnham Tourists, so let’s hope the heatwave promised comes this week.
A.M.
