The week started off with Monday night’s club night. It was a nice evening and the turn-out was excellent, with two rinks playing in the Monday night competition, and the other rinks were with the new people being coached.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Ladies had a game against Isle of Wedmore Ladies in the Mendip League. One rink won, 17-15, one lost, 15-17, and the third was a triple-draw, so the game was a draw overall, with five points going to each team. In the evening, the Men travelled to Weston Bath to play the National two-rink competition, where they won on one rink, 22-18, and lost on one, 16-22, so lost overall by two shots. Weston Bath go through to the next round.
On Wednesday, Purnell’s Men visited Fosseway and won on three of the four rinks, so Fosseway only claimed two points.
The first of our visiting tourist sides came on Thursday. They were a team of Burnham tourists on their way home from Bournemouth. The team consisted of players from Burnham, Bridgwater and surrounding area. Five rinks were played at Fosseway; the remainder played at Prattens.
The game was very enjoyable, with lots of fun on all rinks. We lost on all five rinks, but everyone said they enjoyed the afternoon, especially the meal afterwards. So thanks to Celia, Della and Carole Cocks for their hard work and Ray for keeping the drinks flowing.
On Saturday morning we didn’t have far to go, just across the road to our friends at Prattens to play the first round of the Southey Cup. We won all four rinks – which included singles, pairs, triples and fours – winning overall 89 shots to 53. The game was played in a great friendly spirit.
The Men’s County League game was played away on Saturday afternoon against Alexandra Park, winning only on one rink and losing overall by fifty shots to 57.
There is still time to come and learn the game of bowls – join us on a Monday evening from 6 p.m. You will find our green just off Charlton Lane, behind the car park of the Centurion Hotel. If you require any further information, please ring Ray Soby on: 01761 453218.
