This week has been a sad week for Fosseway Bowls Club. Firstly, we lost one of our members, Richard Andrews, who has been a member for the past few years. Richard’s funeral will be held at Mendip Crematorium, Shepton Mallet on Friday, 14th September at 2.30 p.m.

The second is Geordie Willcox, who passed away on Sunday. Geordie has been a member for many years, but even though he hasn’t played bowls for the past couple of years he has been a very active member until his recent illness. Our thoughts go to the families of both these members.

Back to the bowls over the last week. The Ladies have had three games, all played at home. On Tuesday, we played Victoria (White) club from Weston-super-Mare. We won on one rink, drew on one and lost on one, and lost overall by two shots. Thursday was no better; we won on one rink and lost on two, losing overall by one-and-a-half shots. On Friday, we played Congresbury, where we won on one rink, drew on one and lost on one, again losing overall.

On Saturday, we had a Mixed Friendly game against our friends from Stothert and Pitt. They were only able to field triples against our rinks, and we had a very good game.

Six of our Ladies entered the Bloomfield Ladies’ Triples competition on Wednesday afternoon, and one of the teams won the overall competition by winning three and drawing one of the four games played. Well done Ladies, and spend your winnings wisely! The winning team was Julie Macfarlane, Marian Allen and Janet Andrews.

Don’t forget, the Club Triples are on Saturday, 15th September, starting in the morning at 10 a.m. and continuing in the afternoon. Even if you are not playing, please come along and support the competitors. Teams are also on the club noticeboard for the Janet Norman Trophy, which starts on Tuesday, 18th September.

Monday evening club nights are still being held. Anyone interested in joining our club are welcome on these evenings.
