Firstly, I must apologise to the Fosseway Ladies, as in the write-up last week I reported that we lost to Nailsea, but in fact we won 60 shots to 51 and won eight of the ten points on offer.

It was not a particularly good week for any of our bowlers. On Tuesday, our Men travelled to Clarence Park, Weston-super-Mare, to play in the Top Club, but only managed to win in the four wood singles and two wood singles, lost on the other three, so are out of the competition.

The Ladies had to cancel their NSL competition against Alexandra Park due to not being able to field a team. Their Mendip League game on Thursday against Wrington resulted in Fosseway winning on one rink and losing overall 47 shots to 53, so only gaining two points.

The Men’s Mid-Somerset League game was played against friends from Norwest. On a bitterly cold, miserable night, Fosseway lost on all rinks, losing on one rink by one shot, which was a measure on the last end.

The mixed MMSL game on Friday evening was against a very strong team from Castle Cary and they beat us on all rinks, but it was a very friendly and enjoyable game.

Things weren’t any better on Saturday, when the Men played a friendly game at Purnell. The Men found the green challenging but it played very well. There were no wins on any rinks for Fosseway, but the game was played in a true bowls tradition. Friendly and enjoyable.

Another friendly and enjoyable game was played at Fosseway against friends from Begbrook Green, near Bristol. The final score was 44 to Fosseway and 56 to Begbrook. Although the weather was wet and cold, everyone seemed to be enjoying the afternoon.

We put the losses down this week because of a few members having to call off through illness. Let’s hope we can all do better next week!

This Sunday, we have a mixed friendly against a team from Wellington, and at the moment we are a few names short, so please put your names down as soon as possible.
