Our first game of the week was a Mixed game against Somerset Masonic Bowling Club. Four rinks turned out, and the agreement was to play 21 ends, if weather permitted.

At eighteen ends, the rain started, so we finished the game and retired to the clubhouse. A lovely two-course meal was cooked and served by our resident chef, Tony, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The overall result was a win for the Masons, by three rinks to one, but they only won 66 shots to 64.

On Tuesday, we travelled to Chew Stoke for a North Somerset League game. The weather was sunny, and we managed to win on two rinks, lost on one, and drew overall, so Fosseway came away with six of the ten points.

Two Ladies’ teams entered Alexandra Park’s Ladies’ Triples Competition on Wednesday. We all enjoyed the day. Team A, with Julie, Shirley and Janet Andrews came fourth in their section, but Team B, with Thelma, Lizzie and Anne, came fourth overall, so were in the money. These tournaments are very enjoyable, so ladies, look out for next year!

The Men played a Friendly game against Frome Park on Wednesday evening and won on two rinks, lost on one, and drew overall. A good game was had by all.

On Thursday, the Ladies travelled to Stothert and Pitt for another North Somerset League game, and again won on two rinks and lost on one, but this time, we won overall and came away with eight of the ten points.

The last of the MSL Mixed games, at home against Frome Park, was played on Friday night. All season we haven’t done very well in this league, and were on the bottom, but we pulled out all the stops on Friday, and won on two rinks and lost on one to Frome – who were holding second place in the league.

Fosseway won ten of the twelve points.

The Saturday County League game against Stothert and Pitt was not so fortunate. Fosseway Men lost on all rinks. Never mind, we will try again next year. There is still one more game to play. Monday club nights are still running, so anyone wanting to have a go, come up at 6.15 p.m. Bowls and tuition will be provided.
