The end of the ‘closed’ season at Fosseway Bowls Club saw members enjoying the film, ‘Booze Cruise’ presented by Roger. Everyone enjoyed it and have asked him to get the third film in the series for later in the year.
Sunday, 9th April saw the opening of the green by President Clive. 36 bowlers were out on the green in beautiful sunshine, half playing for the President and half for the Captain. The afternoon started with a Spider (nearest bowl to the centre). This was won by Stewart MacFarlane. After eighteen ends of very competitive bowling, the President’s team had ninety shots and the Captain’s 88.
Winning teams were President – Stewart MacFarlane, Steve Watson and Thelma Chun. Captain’s winning team was Mike Satterthwaite, Molly Bowring and Mike Poulter. The game was followed by a superb meal for 47 members, supplied by our in-house chef, Tony Cooper, aided by Celia Soby. Ray kept everyone supplied with drinks all afternoon. Clive thanked them for all their hard work. He closed the afternoon by welcoming Vice President, Tony Jones and his wife, Josie and thanking everyone for making the day go so well. He reported that John Nation had agreed to take over as Competition Secretary with the help of Dave Yarlett.
The Ladies are holding two practice afternoons, one on 11th and one on the 18th April; this is in preparation for our first league game which is against Bath Bowling Club on 20th April. The following week will see the Annual Bowls Tour to Bideford, with games being played at Rock Park, Braughton and Byeways Bowling Clubs. We just hope the weather will be warm and dry.
May starts with a Ladies’ friendly game against Prattens on the 2nd and a Men’s friendly at home against Stothert and Pitt on the 3rd.
Due to next Monday being a Bank Holiday, the Monday competition will be on Tuesday, 18th April. Don’t forget, anyone wishing to have a go at bowling is welcome on any Monday from 6 p.m. onwards.
