On Tuesday afternoon, Prattens Bowls Club’s Ladies were at home to local rivals, Fosseway. Unfortunately, Prattens lost on all three rinks, so the win went to Fosseway, 35 shots to 60.
A Mixed Prattens team were the visitors at Sydney Gardens (Bath) on Wednesday evening. In a game on four rinks, Prattens won on two rinks, drew on one rink and lost on one rink. The overall result was a win for Prattens,78 shots to 63. One rink deserves a special mention: Prattens’ members, Chris Love, Pauline Dando, Steve Garside and Mike Gilbert achieved a ‘hot shot’. This means that Prattens scored a maximum of eight shots in a single end, which is recognised by Bowls International with the award of a certificate and ‘hot shot’ badge – congratulations to all four players!
Prattens’ Men played their first game in the National Two Rink Competition on Thursday evening, at home to Alexandra Park (Bath). Prattens won on one rink, 22 shots to 15 and lost narrowly, 17 shots to 18 on the second rink. Overall, it was a win for Prattens, 39 shots to 33.
On Saturday afternoon, a Mixed Prattens team played at Trowbridge Town in a game shortened from 21 ends to 18 by two interruptions due to heavy rain. Prattens lost on three rinks and won on one rink; overall Prattens lost 54 shots to 93.
On Sunday afternoon, a Mixed team from Prattens were the visitors at Frome Park. Prattens won on three rinks and lost on one rink, but even after the necessary adjustments, the final score was a win for Prattens, 78 shots to 74.
The coming week sees league games for both the Men’s and Ladies’ teams. Prattens’ Men are away to local rivals, Norwest, in the Somerset County League and Prattens’ Ladies are away to local rivals, Paulton, in the Wild League. Prattens’ Ladies also have a friendly game away to Keynsham on Thursday afternoon. There are Mixed games on Friday evening, away to Street in the Mixed Mid-Somerset League and on Sunday away to Broughton Gifford in a friendly. Don’t forget that Prattens hold regular club nights on Monday at 6 p.m. All are welcome to come along and try the game of bowls, just wear flat shoes.
