I know it’s difficult to turn out on a dark, cold, winter evening, it’s much easier to cosy up to the fire, but I’m pleased to say our members and friends did us proud. We had nine teams for our first social evening of 2020.
It was also our first social run by Len Gunstone and although it showed that a few of our brains have got a little rusty of late, it was a huge success. Len treated us to some very tricky close-up photos and a variety of TV theme tunes, many of which were familiar, but remained firmly just beyond our reach. Not that it really mattered as everyone seemed to have a great evening with lots of laughter, even while they were scratching their heads.
Congratulations to the winning team of Kath, Tony, Janet and Steve. We owe a big thank you to our barman, Paul, and of course to Len, who did an absolutely brilliant job. Also to Len’s assistant, Yvonne, who totted up all the points. Thanks, Len.
I must also thank everyone who turned up and bought along goodies for our sumptuous American supper. Thanks also for all the raffle prizes and to our raffle queen, Chloe. I’m not sure if it’s allowed, but she managed to pull her own ticket out first!
Now, some dates for your diaries: the Ladies spring meeting will be on 14th March at 2.30 p.m. with Subs evening on 28th March. Our green will open, weather permitting, on 14th April and Presidents’ Day is on Sunday, 19th April. Hopefully, I’ll have another date for you next week: it’s another social, but for this one you’ll need Lady Luck on your side rather than brain power or a good memory!
Finally: an update on our Club Treasurer, Mary Harston. She’s had her op and is up and about, so it looks like she’ll be back in the swing of things ready to chase you all for your money on subs night. So start saving all those pennies!
