Last Tuesday it was the Ladies’ first Wild League game of the season, and what a great start it was: we were at home to the Ladies of Shelton Mallet, and after a thoroughly enjoyable game, our Ladies claimed a 10-2 victory. A very satisfatory outcome.
However, on Thursday, it was a different matter, when they played another first – but this time in the North Somerset League. Our opponents were Chew Stoke for this game, and although it was a bright sunny afternoon, there was a bitter wind cutting across the green, which saw the Ladies donning innumerable layers to keep the chill out. Unfortunately the score did nothing to warm our girls up, as they suffered a 9-1 defeat.
And so to the Lads – they too had two games, both of which were friendlies. The first, on Wednesday evening, saw them travel into Bath, where they met old friends and rivals at Bloomfield. It was a good game, and our lads found it very entertaining to see Ross Turnball scurrying in and out of the clubhouse to check on the pasties and beans, which the boys enjoyed after the game. Nice one ‘Rosco’, very tasty!
All round it was a good evening for our boys, as they came away ‘full of beans’, celebrating their 89-67 win. On Saturday, they had to journey a bit further afield when they visited Yeovil for another friendly and yet another win, this time 113-105. Well done lads, a great start to the season.
Now to this week, and when you read this, all us Norwesters will be sunning ourselves at the seaside. Yes, it’s our annual club tour, and this year we’re going to Bournemouth, where we’ll be enjoying a relaxing few days and hopefully making some new friends when we play games against Southbourne, Dorchester and Swanage – but more of that next week.
For now, it’s time to gather up the sun cream, sun hat and bucket and spade, and bid you all farewell as I board the coach for the delights of sunny Dorset. NH
