Well, we certainly wanted the rain and boy, did we get it! To say our green was somewhat soggy on Sunday for this year’s Cecil Jones Competition would be an understatement. However, sixteen of our intrepid bowlers ventured forth to play what turned out to be a very enjoyable game of bowls. Even the weather was on our side, for although it rained for most of the morning and we took to the green in our wet gear, the most we suffered was a little light drizzle and the ‘wets’ were soon abandoned.
Thanks to Mike and Paul for organising the game and to everyone who turned up. Congratulations go to Brian Holmes, who pipped Mike Firth in what turned out to be a tight final, to claim the trophy.
Just two results for you this week: on Wednesday afternoon, a mixed team visited our local rivals at Paulton for a friendly game. I wasn’t there, but although we lost by seven shots, I’m sure it was a great afternoon, as always when we play Paulton. Another friendly, this time a Men’s game on Saturday, when bowlers from Keynsham joined us on our green. It was a somewhat damp affair which was cut short due to the weather, but it was nonetheless enjoyable, made even more so for Norwest, as they won by three shots.
Now for a couple of reminders: Don’t forget to get your names down for our Sunday friendlies. On Sunday, 19th, we play Paulton and on Sunday, 26th, we’re off to Wilton. I know Paul often needs more names, so come on, give it a try, they really are great games. Secondly, the list is up on the wall for the first Anne Wilkinson ‘Changing Places’ Memorial Competition. We all miss Anne, and this hopefully will be a fitting tribute to her. The game is limited to 28 players, and it’s the first 28 on the list who will play. And lastly: The Journal do us proud and manage to squeeze us in most weeks, but sometimes, like last week, there just isn’t space, so remember you can still go online to check out the Norwest news at either The Journal website or our own at: www.norwestbowlsclub.co.uk
