It’s been a busy week for our Ladies: they had two Wild League fixtures, the first on Tuesday, away to Street, where they suffered a bit of a thumping, losing 0-12, with a shot difference of too many to mention!

Our other Wild League game was on Thursday, again away, but this time to Shepton Mallet, and true to recent form we suffered another defeat, but this time we managed to get two of the twelve points on offer and the shot difference was only eight.

On Wednesday, nine of our girls ventured to Alexandra Park for their Ladies Triples Tournament. It was a brilliant day, and a huge vote of thanks goes to all the members at Alex, who made the day such a success. Needless to say, our girls didn’t win any prizes, but we all felt like winners after enjoying such a great day out.

Unlike the girls, it’s been a quiet week for the lads, with just their County League games on Saturday: the A team played away to Frome Selwood, where they won 10-2 by fourteen shots. The B team stayed at home for their game against Knowle C, and they also won 10-2, but by only five shots.

For Friday’s mixed Mid Somerset League game we welcomed Purnell to our green. It was an enjoyable game with lots of banter, especially on our rink, where we had lots of trouble with their skip, Don, who would insist on coming in for shot every time we were holding. This could account in part for the fact that we lost the game 3-9 overall.

There was another mixed game on Sunday, when we went to Paulton for a friendly. As usual, it was a super, friendly game against our old friends and rivals at Paulton, and even though we beat them by seven shots, they still treated us to a delicious tea with scrumptious cakes afterwards. Thanks Paulton – as usual, you did us proud.

This week saw the beginning of the Charity Floodlight League, which began with a match on Monday at Norwest, between Purnell and Prattens. This is a great League with a brilliant atmosphere on the green, and they raise lots of money for some very good local causes – so, if you’re able, do come along and watch any of the games.

And finally, a reminder: on Sunday, 26th August there is a mixed friendly away to Wilton, and with the end of the season looming, it might be a good time to get your name down to play. NH
