Our Ladies’ meeting last Saturday afternoon was a tremendous success, with only two of our ladies unable to attend: Our Vice President, Moira, who was unwell, and our youngest member, Chloe, who was double booked – and obviously, the birthday party won out!

It was an interesting and productive meeting and all our girls are ready and eager for the start of the new season – nasty little viruses permitting. Personally, I would like to thank all the girls for the support they showed me over recent events and on behalf of the girls; I’d like to wish Moira a speedy recovery.

With things so uncertain concerning the start of the 2020 bowls season, I’ve decided to report about what has happened rather than what might be. So once again, I’ll tell you what happened with our youngsters. On Saturday, at Taunton Deane, they held the Somerset County Under-16s Singles competition and local lad, Cameron Bowen, managed to scoop the Runners-up award. Well done, Cameron.

On Sunday, again at Taunton Deane, they held the Under-18s ‘School of Excellence’ competition. We had three local youngsters, Chloe, Jack and Cameron in this competition, all thanks to the hard work and dedication of Mel, Don and Colin at Purnell, and they did us proud. Chloe came in second in the Skills section while Jack and Cameron were better at the Singles and once again, Cameron came in as overall Runner- up, claiming the trophy. Well done to all three of you, you did a great job. NH
