Brilliant news this week: Aaron did it! On a somewhat chilly morning at Taunton Bowls Club, and in a fiercely-contested game, Aaron finally won through to become Somerset County’s 2017 Unbadged Champion.

It was a nail-biting contest against a local rival, Terry Priddle, of Purnell, and certainly kept us on the edge of our seats until the very end. Congratulations to Aaron, commiserations to Terry, and thank you both for a very entertaining morning.

Our Ladies had two North Somerset League games; the first against Bloomfield, which they won, and the second against Chew Stoke, which they lost. It has not been the best of seasons for our girls, and with three games yet to play, I’m afraid the results will make little difference to their position in the league tables, which I’m sorry to say, is at the bottom. In our defence, we have managed to put out a team for almost every game, and this has meant playing our new Ladies, so a big thank you to them and let’s hope that next year, all the experience gained will pay off.

The lads have finished all their County League East Division One games, with the A team finishing comfortably in fifth place, but the news is not so good for the B team, who have been relegated to Division Two. The Men’s friendly on Saturday against Wyrall Park was a bit of a washout, with our lads losing by 19 shots and narrowly missing the deluge, which flooded the green seconds after the last player left.

The Floodlight Charity league is almost at an end, with the final taking place at Norwest on Thursday, 14th September in the evening. The final should be thoroughly entertaining, so if you’d like to come along and watch you will be very welcome. There will be hot dogs and pasties available, and the bar will be open.

Finally, a couple of reminders: the lists are up for both the Captains’ Day, Sunday 24th September, and our Presentation Evening on Saturday, 18th November. If you want to come to either of these, get your name up on the lists and for the presentation meal, Mary needs your menu choices and money by Captains’ Day.
