The Parkinson’s Indoor Bowls group have had their summer break and are now back up and running. We play on a Tuesday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 3.30 p.m.; then we have tea and a good old chin wag!

The play is very relaxed and at your own pace. We are looking for new members and the training is free – all you need is a soft pair of flat shoes, everything else is supplied.

One of our new members has told us what it is like to come along. He says: “Having developed Parkinson’s disease in 2010, I was looking for a sport that would be kind to my muscles and joints. I am pleased to say that my condition is under control with a well-balanced drug programme.

“Having attended our local coffee morning to raise money for research, I became aware of bowls as something I had watched other people play, but never played myself. So, I turned up at Paulton Bowling Club to give it a go. The pace of the game may be slower due to different levels of disability, but it is for everyone. I have been playing now for fifteen months and am really enjoying it. The club meets every Tuesday at 2 p.m. All are welcome.”

Even if you do not have Parkinson’s, but would like to come along and give it a try, you would be very welcome and the group would be pleased to see you. Come along, just turn up on the day at Purnell Bowling Club (The Sports Ground, Paulton, BS39 7NX) or phone: 01761 432452.
