The first weekend of September got off to a brilliant start, with a convincing win over Purnell, gaining ten points to two by our men in the County League match – very well done.

On Sunday, the first of our finals days saw us playing in lovely weather a number of matches. Firstly, the Ruth Francis Trophy between Shirley Meek/Annabelle Curtis and Daphne Dodgson/Joyce Denning was a hard-fought match ending in a win for Daphne and Joyce by two shots.

Next up was a thrilling Ladies’ Singles match, again featuring Annabelle and Daphne, and after a match of thirty ends the victor was Daphne.

Then followed the Fixed Jack competition between Bob Gay and Annabelle, and again the spectators were treated to another thrilling game, with Annabelle becoming a convincing winner.

Finally came the Wilfe Cope Mixed Pairs match, played by Sheelagh and Martyn May, against Daphne Dodgson and David Ball. Daphne and Dave got off to a good start and sadly Sheelagh and Martyn were unable to gain the upper hand, and the winners were Daphne and Dave.

Well done all those who competed, and I’m sure all the spectators enjoyed a fabulous day of bowling. To add to all that, we were treated to a super lunch and plenty of tea/coffee, biscuits and cake throughout the day, by a team lead by Diane and the ladies of the club – thank you everyone.
