This last week of the season has been very busy getting all the competitions completed. On Sunday, we were treated to some exceptional bowling by our members.

Ladies singles was first up, with Daphne Dodgson narrowly beating Annabelle Curtis. Next came the Men’s singles, and Steve Chivers was the winner. The Ladies two-wood was next, and here again, Lesley Beard and Annabelle had another exciting match, with Lesley the winner. Trevor Francis won the Men’s two-wood.

The Ruth Francis trophy was won by Daphne and Joyce. The George Beale Trophy was won by Dave Beard/Trevor Francis. The Wilfe Cope Trophy saw Dave Ball/Daphne as winners. The Mixed Pairs winners were again Dave and Daphne. The Fixed Jack Trophy was convincingly won by Annabelle. The Mixed Fours Trophy was won by Bob, Dave, Jane and Pat, while the Mixed Triples Trophy was won by Bob, Daphne and Pat. Congratulations are due to all who took part.

On Thursday, we held the President versus Captain match, with the Captain’s teams narrowly winning by two shots. In conjunction with this, we held our fundraiser for Macmillan with a cream tea, spider and many raffle prizes, which altogether amounted to £230 for this good cause.

The Novice Trophy was won by Angie Cruickshank; runner-up, Phil Thorn. The Doreen Holley Trophy was won by Joyce May and Jenny. Finally, it was the Champion of Champions between Steve and Annabelle – what a match, with Daphne the victor on the last end.

The week ended with matches against Castle Cary and South Petherton. Sadly, we lost both these matches, but what a good season we have had – not always the results we wished for, but good bowling and a good time amongst friends.
