This week, the Floodlight Charity Cup matches started, with Paulton playing on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

The charity matches were started several years ago as a way local lawn bowls clubs could support good causes in the area.

This year, the funds raised will go to Helping Henry, a local Midsomer Norton boy.

In the FCC on Wednesday against a mixed team from Frome Park and Selwood, we lost 4-1, whilst in Thursday’s match against Norwest, played at Purnell’s ground, each team won on two rinks, but we lost overall as we had to concede the final rink due to a lack of available players.

On Thursday afternoon, the Ladies lost a closely-fought game against Castle Cary at home.

On a perfect English bowling Saturday, with a brilliant green, we held the first of our club Finals, where some of our newer members, in very close matches, showed spirit and skill which bodes well for the future.

Well done to Anna Blackwell in both the Ladies’ two-woods and in partnership with Dave Hancock in the mixed pairs.

The day finished with a superb meal and a big thank you to all those involved in making this a truly memorable day.
