This week has seen the Ladies Team play in two County Competitions while the Mens Team played one game and Saturday saw the early rounds of the Mixed Triples Competition. The Triples Competition consisted of six teams playing a series of short games (8 ends with all players using three bowls each) against one another spread across Saturday. All teams played two games before lunch and 2 games after lunch with the 2 best performing teams going on to the final which will take place on the Finals Weekend in September. Thanks go to Graham and Betty Whittock who organised the competition and lunch with Betty even managing to take part – Graham is our Competitions Secretary so was too busy to play. The Mens game during the week was against Paulton and Prattens lost on all three rinks but on two of the rinks the result was very close and only determined by the last end - in fact, by my maths, the overall score was tied with about 4 ends to go. Last but very definitely not least we come to the Ladies games. The first of these was played at Bath and Prattens were victorious in the County Ladies Senior 4’s by a score 13-11 and more on to the next round – congratulations to Pauline, Sue Price (one of the many Sues), Lin and Liz on their victory. While this is not the first time in the last few years that Prattens Ladies have had victories against Bath it is still something to be celebrated. On Sunday the Ladies (rather more of them) travelled to Clevedon to play against the hosts in the Ladies Top Club Competition. This is a competition which is played as a singles match, pairs, triples and a full rink and was played in very hot weather on Sunday morning. Many of the Ladies had also played in the Club Triples the previous day (also in hot weather) and perhaps this affected them because, although they all played well, they lost in three of the games and drew the other one so were eliminated from this competition..

Next week the ladies are scheduled to play two games which were both originally intended to be Wild League games but will now be played as friendly games. The Mens team will play at home against Purnells in the Mid Somerset League on Wednesday and the mixed team will be at Wyrall Park on Friday evening. Saturday will once again be dedicated to the early rounds of a club competition with the Mixed Pairs being the chosen competition on this occasion.
