Over the Bank Holiday weekend, Prattens held two open sessions in association with the Bowls England Bowls Big Weekend national recruitment initiative but, while many members came along and enjoyed practicing and taking part in some specially organised bowls activities, we had very few visitors to the club.

Please note that if you are still wondering about trying bowls (or even getting back to bowls having played in your youth) we have a club evening every Monday and people who want to try the game are always welcome, even when we are not holding a specific recruitment session.

As I always say, Bowls is the game for all ages and as well as being a sport requiring skill, is also a very social event.

This last week the club played three games. The Ladies’ team played at home to Frome Selwood in a game played in a very good spirit and Prattens won in fairly good style.

The second game played was a mixed game away to Castle Cary which was lost on all three rinks, although one rink managed to keep the score reasonably close the other two rinks lost by good margins.

Finally, the third game was against Long Ashton in the Tony Allcock Trophy which is a two rink game with both rinks losing fairly narrowly (a total margin of eight shots).

This week we are only scheduled to play one game which is a Men’s game at home to Paulton on Wednesday evening before the first round of the club triples is played on Saturday. Graeme Smith
