Oh, what a washout this week has been at Norwest Bowls Club. Rain, rain and more rain. I blame Eric Obern. Once again, this year, he has done a grand job supplying us with some
beautiful hanging baskets to brighten up the clubhouse. Thanks Eric, they are lovely, but did you have to ask the ‘powers above’ to be quite so generous with the watering?
Three of our games have been cancelled this week due to flooded greens, but to look on the bright side, at least we have something to look at when we are sitting waiting for the rain to stop so that we can get back out on the green!
Our Ladies were lucky with the weather at least when they went to Chew Stoke for a NSL game on Tuesday. As usual, we had to play one short and in consequence, lose quarter of our score on that rink, as it is seen as an advantage to have three woods. This may be so, if you are fielding experienced players, but when you have to play new ladies, the advantages all go to the opposition. However, we did mange to claim two of the ten points on offer and we didn’t get wet, so there are some positives. I’d also like to thank our new ladies, as without them we couldn’t even field a team.
Now for the next three games. A Men’s MSL, a Ladies NSL and a Mixed MMSL all cancelled because of all that rain.
At least, on Saturday, it eased up for our Men’s two County League East games and our boys certainly brought some sunshine into our lives by winning both their games. First the A team, who went to Stothert and Pitt A and came home with ten of the twelve points on offer, while the B team, playing at home against Bloomfield C, took the whole twelve points. Well done lads, keep it up.
Now for the County games. Unfortunately, our boys lost their County triples game against Chew Stoke, who we wish well for their next round. Aaron, Dave, Martin and Graham, our County Fours, won through by one shot after a dodgy start against Victoria Park. They will meet the men from Bath Bowls Club in the next round, so good luck for that game, lads. We also wish our Top Club team the best of luck for their game on Sunday when they play the team from Wyrall Park. We’ve got everything crossed for you!
