Congratulations to Emma and Rohan Griffin, who have been awarded Shields for being the best students of 2016. The trophies are awarded for good etiquette, spirit and attitude. The outstanding students practise Karate at Chilcompton and Stratton-on-the-Fosse Village Halls.

The awards were presented by JKA England Mendip instructors, Julie Morgan and Andy Forster. The decision this year was particularly tough, with the high calibre of students coming through the ranks.

Susannah Carruthers, Poppy Bodley and Matthew Denning-Maggs were Highly Commended and awarded certificates and medals for their excellent efforts this year.

There was also an in-house grading for the four white belts who were unable to grade at the regional grading held recently. Freddie, Alfie, Logan and Devon all performed their best with great spirit and as a result, were all award an intermediate grade until they are able to go for full grade in the New Year.

Mendip Instructors, Julie and Andy, are very proud of all the hard work the students have put in last year and know they’ll all continue to give their best in 2017.

Lessons begin again on Thursday, 5th January, Mendip SKC welcomes new members aged from six years. Karate is a fantastic way to keep fit, as well as learning new skills and building confidence. Anyone is welcome to come along and have a try; the only requirements being good character, respect for others and a willingness to give one’s best. Training takes place at Chilcompton and Stratton-on-the- Fosse Village Halls, also at Writhlington Sports Centre.
