IN THE last team competition of the season players from Camerton and Peasedown CC produced a sensational win at the Budleigh Salterton Short Croquet Event.

Short Croquet is a variant of Association Croquet played on half-lawns; this South West Federation Event is structured in divisions.

In Division 5 the CPCC team of Mo Boys (captain), Ann Munton, Si Dunk and Simon Munton played teams from Glamorgan, Tisbury and Cornwall. After a full day’s play Camerton and Peasedown were tied for first place, at 10 games all, with Cornwall. There was then a ‘shootout for the peg’ which CPCC won, thereby securing first place and a promotion for next season to Division 4.

Camerton and Peasedown CC is one of the few clubs in the area who play all year round and therefore it attracts players from nearby clubs that stop playing during the winter. This addition of new members, who join at a seasonally reduced membership fee is very welcome, as are some beginners who have recently decided to see what the club can offer, for fresh air and social companionship, through the winter months.

There are some wonderful autumn days to look forward to and the mood is very relaxed. The four lawns in Peasedown are re-configured to allow areas of summer wear to recover; this makes them slightly smaller and easier to judge.

Internal fun ‘Winter’ tournaments are scheduled between October and December and play will continue whenever the lawns are free of frost and not too wet.

The club’s popular Roll-up Sundays, when anyone who has never played Golf Croquet are invited to come along and see what the game is all about, are scheduled for November 1 and December 6. Everybody will be welcome (2.00 pm start); wear flat shoes and some warm clothing! See the club’s website https://camertonpeasedowncroquet.co.uk/.
