Farrington Golf Club Captains, Jill Wellington (Lady Captain), Rob Thain (Seniors Captain) and Simon Wellington (Club Captain), all ably supported by Will Hobbs, the Junior Captain, are delighted with the funds that have been raised for their charity, SWALLOW, during the Captains' Day held on Friday, 3rd August.
SWALLOW (South West Action for Learning and Living Our Way), is a local organisation, based in Midsomer
Norton, which helps members with learning disabilities cope with independent living.
Visiting families enjoyed a children's tombola, face painting, a bouncy castle and slide, a car display, a tri golf competition and Simon Wellington's Art Exhibition.
Members enjoyed a Captains' Day golf competition, a golf sale and ladies clothing sale. The day was capped off by Paul Barrington's spectacular Trick Shot Show!
The fun continued into the evening, with an auction, expertly guided by Jim Farmer, and was made complete by the band, 'Junk Male', entertaining with 'Old Gold Retold', a superb set of classic rock favourites.
Testament to the success of the day is the staggering total raised for SWALLOW – £5,017.51. Various raffles raised £903, the Auction £1,080, the Silent Auction of rounds of golf at other clubs £535 and Hole Sponsorship £1,050.
Club Captain, Simon Wellington, commented after the event: "The Captains' Day was more successful than we dared dream. Every contribution, no matter how large or small, was equally important in achieving the total amount raised and all of the Captains would like to thank everyone who contributed with donations, effort, manpower, advice, guidance and support."
Commenting on the donation, Bev Craney, General Manager at SWALLOW, said: "The wonderful amount raised by the Captains' Charity Day will come into great use at SWALLOW.We will now be deciding what to do with the money and put it to best use. It was a fantastic day and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely."
The money raised is just part of a year of fundraising in aid of SWALLOW at Farrington Golf Club. All the money raised will go towards extending the help and support that the charity provides.
