In view of the unfolding tragedy taking place in Ukraine at this present time, it was agreed by the Mixed Section members that all the entry fees from Sunday’s competition would be sent to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal for Ukraine.

In addition to the £501 raised by the raffle and £160 from the entry fees, the Ladies Section raffled a Hotel Chocolat Easter egg kindly donated by Pat Roscow, on Thursday, 7th April, which raised £90.

In total £751.00 was raised for the DEC Appeal for Ukraine from these three initiatives.

The Mixed Section organisers were overwhelmed by the generosity of club members who donated the raffle prizes and bought raffle tickets. They would like to thank everyone who made this event such a success and the £751 will be sent to the DEC this week to help fund its charity commitments in Ukraine.

The golf which proceeded these initiatives seemed almost immaterial, but for the record, the Ladies Section held a Medal Competition on a sunny but very windy day. It was almost impossible on occasions to stand up, let alone play decent golf in the 40 to 50mph wind and golf trolleys blew over at the slightest opportunity.

Division Three winner was Kath Cox (nett 87) with Jenny Howarth (nett 89) and Jane Richardson (nett 91) taking second and third spots respectively. Division Two was won by Sue Skyrme with a nett 81, followed by Min Woodward (nett 85) and Jackie Willcox (nett 88).

The best round of the day came from Division One player, Fiona Hassard, who scored a nett 79, beating Jackie Walker (nett 82) and June Symonds (nett 86).

Whilst the Masters golf major was being played in Augusta, Georgia, the Mixed Section were playing their Parker Charity Shield competition. They enjoyed better weather on Sunday and the scores from the American Greensomes Stableford competition were very good.

Rosi Brown won the Nearest the Pin competition for the Ladies on 15th hole and together with partner, Lee Bruton, they scored 39 points to take fourth place on countback from Issey and Paul Panton. June and Steve Symonds were third with 40 points, two points behind Margaret Seery and Steve Hobbs, who also won the Men’s Nearest the Pin competition on the fifth hole.

The winners have been close to winning a competition on several occasions this season but finally got over the line to claim their maiden victory. Bob and Denise Baker had a superb score of 45 points and were worthy and popular winners of the Parker Charity Shield. Jane Ball
