Seventeen-year-old Corey Walkes, from Radstock, has been selected to represent Great Britain for the fifth consecutive year in his final Junior World Age Group trampoline Championships.

Corey trains up to five days a week at Quayside Trampoline and Gymnastics Club in Bridgwater, alongside Senior World medallist and GBR squad member, Laura Gallagher.

Corey will be up against the World’s best junior trampoline gymnasts when he competes in the 17-21-year-old Men’s age group at the 26th World Age Group Trampoline, Tumbling and DMT Championships in St Petersburg in November.

Last month, Corey became the 2018 Under-21 Men’s British Champion, having won both the Gold Medal and the Paul Luxon Senior Award for the highest execution score of the entire competition at the 2018 British Trampoline, Tumbling & DMT Championships held last month at The Arena, Birmingham.

Corey is self-funding, and now has the task of finding an additional £1,500 to enable him to compete for his country at the pinnacle of competitions for his age. This amount covers his entry fee, flights, accommodation and – most importantly – his food!

Corey is now in his final training sessions before he flies out with the Great Britain Junior Team on Monday, 12th November to compete.

Last week, Corey found out that he was a recipient of a TS5C Young Sports Person of the Year award at the Somerset Activity and Sports Awards Night 2018. However, as he didn’t want to miss his training to attend the awards evening, Alan Gloak MBE, founder of the TS5C charity, has kindly arranged to visit Corey at Quayside whilst he trains to present him with his certificate.
