At the beginning of February, Chilcompton Sports Cricket Club held its AGM at Chilcompton Sports Club.
The Club thanked Parker Transport (SW) Ltd, Spectrum Form Design Ltd and PG Owen Ltd for their continued generous sponsorship.
The Chilcompton Sports Club Committee were also thanked for providing excellent facilities at the Sports Club.
2020 will be the sixth season as Chilcompton Sports Cricket Club and 2019 marked another successful Season for the Senior section.
The Saturday 1st XI finished a comfortable fifth in Bristol and District Division 5 following their promotion in 2018.
The Sunday 2nd XI finished runners-up to local rivals, Mells, by one solitary point in Bristol & District Division 13 and were promoted into Division 11 for this season.
The Sunday XI finished a comfortable fourth in North Somerset Division 3, following their promotion in 2018.
Senior Indoor Nets began last Sunday at Wells Blue School (2 p.m. to 3 p.m.). Current, old and new players all welcome. Senior Outside training starts on Thursday 26th March at Chilcompton Sports Club, 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Youth Section had a very enjoyable season, with expert professional coaching from Frome’s Mark Watts, who had great help from parents and senior players.
The U11 side finished a creditable third, the U13 side finished mid-table in the Bath and District Youth Cricket League and both sides more than held their own against the bigger clubs from the Bath Area.
The Junior Registration Night will be held at Chilcompton Sports Club on Friday 13th March (6 p.m. to 7 p.m.).
Junior Training Sessions (7 years +) will be held again at Chilcompton Sports Club on Wednesday evenings from 22nd April until the end of July (6.15 p.m. – 7.45 p.m.).
There are also plans to offer ‘All Stars’ Cricket in June 2020.
Following in the footsteps of Joe Fussell in 2018 and Alexandra Baughan in 2019, we are delighted to report that Zak Gloudemans was selected to represent Somerset Juniors in 2020. This is a great achievement for Zak, who is one of our growing number promising young players. Another note of mention is fourteen-year-old, Thomas Scott, who won Junior Player of the Year and successfully moved up to the Senior Sunday XI and turned in some excellent performances.
The Club held the Senior/Junior Presentation at Chilcompton Sports Club on 17th January, with the following awards handed out: 1st XI Saturday Senior Player of the Year, Lauren Bowen-Jones; 2nd XI Saturday Senior Player of the Year, Shaun White. Sunday Senior Player of the Year, Harrison Veale, Club Senior Player of the Year, Alex Fudge. Young Player of the Year, Thomas Scott; Spirit of Stratton Clubman of the Year, Richard Gillard.
