Another disappointing batting display consigned Timsbury to a second successive heavy defeat in the Bristol and District League Senior Division. Once again they failed to build on a solid foundation and lost their last six wickets for 45 runs.

The game began with Bristol West Indians Phoenix fielding only eight players and Timsbury openers, Mark Sage and Jon Strand, took full advantage, amassing 22 off the very first over from Cadell Reid, which contained four boundaries, two wides and a no ball. The visitors soon reached their full complement of players, but Sage and Strand continued to bat well before Reid gained revenge having Sage caught behind for 43. Strand perished four short of a half century, but there was little support from the rest of the team. Spinners, Mahin Omar (4-28) and Ishtiaq Ishaq (3-14), backed up by some good catching took control and the home side were dismissed for an under par total of 170.

Timsbury’s hopes rose when Ellis Hancock took two early wickets, but James Pearson, was then dropped on 0 and he was to take full advantage of the let off. He recovered from a shaky start to embark on an unbroken third wicket stand of 163 with opener Nick Clark. Pearson finished 88 not out and Clark was unbeaten on 62 as Timsbury skipper, Steve Clothier employed eight bowlers in an unsuccessful quest to break the partnership.

This week Timsbury play their last game in the first half of the season away to bottom of the table Portishead and will be looking for an improved performance in all aspects of the game.
