Thank you to our supporters who recently came to the Midsomer Norton Methodist Cricket Club Jumble Sale. It raised £300 for the final assault towards paying off the new roller.
Members are now champing at the bit to start the cricket season after Easter when no doubt it could be cold and rainy!
The Club has now been going for at least seventy years and competes in the Bristol and District Saturday League Division Ten. The Scorebooks from 1949 onwards are now available to view on the club website. Journal readers who played or continue to play local cricket for the Methodists can access highlights (and low points!) of their matches and career – fascinating reading ‘for those who like that sort of thing’ (the words of the late Michael Gilson, who died twenty years ago this year).
We also have to report the passing of John Burge, a founder member of the club, who died recently and offer condolences to his family. For many years, he was a solid opening batsman and onetime held the record of the highest score for the club. Many Journal readers may recall his late Father in Law, Teddy Gregory, who occasionally umpired, presided at his Men’s Hair Cutting shop at the Stones Cross end of Norton High Street.
New players are welcome, along with supporters. We’d love to see you! Do contact Dave Sackett (Secretary) on: 01761 415396 or Stuart Green (Team Captain) on: 01761 419396 for information.
