ASHBRITTLE 232-7 TEMPLE CLOUD 233-9

Temple made the long journey to Ashbrittle and came away with a last-ball victory by the final pair. The home side won the toss and batted, but lost two quick wickets to Simon Mahoney.

Pitkin and Davey put together a fifty partnership, followed by seventy from skipper, Andy Hill.

For Temple, the quick bowlers proved most successful and economic, with Rob Head’s nine overs costing sixteen runs, whilst Courtney Forrest took three catches behind the stumps.

Temple opened briskly, with Forrest getting a half century, but with wickets falling at regular intervals, they were in trouble at 90-5. The middle order gave valuable support, but when the last pair of Chris Diaper and Mahoney came together, 25 were still needed.

Chris was in hard-hitting form, but nine were still needed off the final over, which was achieved with the final ball. Skipper, Hill (3-36), was the home side’s most successful bowler.

The Second Xl (161-7) were defeated by Shapwick and Polden (162-5). Alex Comer (53) and Howie Wilton (41) were top scorers for Temple, while Paul Lester was their most effective bowler.

In the Somerset Intermediate Cup, Temple entertained local rivals Purnell, and in a high-scoring 20-20 match ran out winners by thirty runs.
