TEMPLE CLOUD 188 UPHILL CASTLE 63

Played at Uphill, the home side won the toss and put Temple in to bat. They lost Alex Comer cheaply, but Miles Hackett (19) and Stef McHale (90) put the innings back on track.

When Miles was dismissed, Kevin and Simon Curtis also fell cheaply, but McHale held the innings together, and with Jon Doel (26), had an important mid-innings partnership. The tail succumbed to the bowling of Chapman (5-36), who also took McHale’s wicket in what turned out to be a match-winning innings.

Uphill got off to the worst possible start, losing five wickets before twenty was reached. Steve Brown (3-11) did the initial damage, whilst Miles Hackett took one of the openers and mopped up the middle and lower order, returning the excellent figures of 6-37 (aided by three catches by Nick Campbell deputising behind the stumps). Temple gained a convincing victory by 125 runs.

Meanwhile, Temple Second Xl continued their good form, beating Cheddar Second Xl at Stowey Road. Batting first, they posted 197-9 thanks largely to Billy Garrett (74) and Simon White (42), with Phillimore (4-31) Cheddar’s most successful bowler. The visitors’ reply fell 23 runs short on 174-6, with Ian Appleyard claiming three wickets for the second successive week.
