Home side, Butleigh, won the toss and batted first in what turned out to be a low-scoring game on a variable wicket, with several players getting starts but not being able to capitalise.

Toby Weech top-scored with 42 not-out, while Richard Appleyard (3-35) was Temple’s most successful bowler.

Temple lost Tom Haydon (8) early on, but Alex Comer (18) and Miles Hackett (35) improved the situation.On their dismissal, only Kevin Curtis (31) mastered the home attack, for whom Olly Acheson starred with 5-35.

To complete a difficult day, Temple Second XI lost at home.

They were put in to bat on an excellent wicket, and at the half-way stage looked to be heading for a big score with Simon Feaver (48) and Jamer Hayne (35). A late collapse then saw Temple slump to an under-par score, with Brafield (3-25) and Pye (3-18) doing the damage.

Churchill were always up with the rate in reply, with Masters (51) and Brafield completing a good all-round day with an undefeated 47. They ran out comfortable winners with two overs to spare, with Paul Lester (2-28) being Temple’s most successful bowler.
