Timsbury Cricket Club looked back on a highly satisfactory season when it held its Presentation evening in the clubroom recently. Captain, Steve Clothier, said that the re-structuring of the leagues meant that Timsbury had, in effect, been promoted and a joint fourth place was a fantastic team effort. Everyone had chipped in at some time during the campaign, with the highlights being the excellent run in the Davidstow National Village Cup which saw Timsbury once more County Champions and chasing down 276 to beat a strong Bristol Asians’ side. The spirit in the team, he said, was outstanding.
The Club Chairman, Austin Sage, felt it had been a great year for the club, with the most encouraging element the number of youngsters in the first team and in the club as a whole. There had been an improvement in training, but plans were already afoot to improve this even more. Sage paid tribute to the many people who had worked tirelessly for the club, and thanked the principal club sponsors, ACE and Ford Fuel Oils and all the match sponsors.
Mark Sage, who was third top scorer in the Senior Division of the Bristol and District League, was voted First Team Player of the Year with Sol Thompson winning the Second team award and Matthew Ball the Third team’s. It was a good night for the Thompson family, with Sol also winning the award for the best performance by a Junior with father Jerry taking the cup for the fastest fifty. Tom Parfitt’s haul of 6–41 against Downend 2nd XI was enough to see him win the cup for Best Performance of the Year while Jesse Bishop was the Outstanding Teenager and James Rawlings the Most Improved Junior. The prestigious Clubman of the Year award was deservedly won by Treasurer, Ben Curtis.
