Peter Leverick and Paul Hole led off, losing a very low scoring game 3&1. Mike Magrath and Rick Sheard dovetailed together well and brought home the first Wells win 3&2. Ian Gleave, captaining the side with town crier, Len Sweales, played in the game of the day. With opponents one under par for the first nine, the Wells pair held on all the way to lose only by one hole.

John North and Dave Couzens proved too strong, winning 5&4 with the final games both more competitive with Nicholas Poore and Steve Dent losing by two holes, and Alan Hayes and Chris Strickland by 3&2.

An enjoyable day, played in glorious sunshine with the Weston course in excellent early season condition.

Throughout January, February and March, Wells’ Ladies had three talks organised by Ladies’ Captain, Katrina Foote. The first in January was a talk by Terry Williams, Wells golf professional, on the mental side of golf. This was followed by a talk on course etiquette and the world handicap system given by Tina Davies and Erica Klim. Lastly, this week, was a talk on the essential rules of golf given by Paul Deeprose, a PGA referee. The rules talk covered everything from where to tee off to what to do with your ball in water and was delivered on the 13th tee in glorious sunshine. Wells Ladies are now fully equipped for the season ahead.
