THE Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club celebrated another enjoyable season with a Presentation Lunch at the Centurion Hotel, Midsomer Norton.

Seniors secretary Alan Jones looked back on a season that had been a good one for the social team with five wins , one defeat and one halved match. The team also put up a good show in the county Rose Bowl, narrowly losing 3-2 to Cricket St Thomas.

Jones said the Seniors were pleased to welcome a number of new members this year and he sent good wishes to members Phil Moody, George Thurston and John Williams who were not enjoying the best of health.

There had also been sadness in losing its oldest member Geoff Weeks who had died shortl yafter reaching his 100th birthday.

Jones thanked Paul Trigg for organising the away day and Society days and the committee members who had put in a lot of hard work. Jones commented on the great progress made by the green keeping staff while other highlights of the year had been the link with the Mentoring Plus charity which supports young people in BANES who faced challenges and the £1050 that was raised by the Seniors and main club members in aid of the Poppy appeal.

Jones himself was thanked for all the hard work he had put in by Chris Appleton.

The player of the year award for the Roger Tabb Trophy went to Paul Trigg who had a highly successful season, winning the Rupert Moore Championship and the Winter League as well as the Groundsman’s Trophy alongside Paul Ellis.

Ellis himself had a good season, winning in all four events, a feat equalled by Competition Secretary Appleton and Shaun Goodwin. Andy Flagg andPhil Winsley each featured three times on the winner’s podium while the Joe Hawkins Mixed Puttsomes was won by married couple Graham and Dilys Edgell.
