Had summer arrived unexpectedly? A fine day greeted Farrington Seniors' visitors from Orchardleigh, arriving with a very strong side which we later discovered to be their Rosebowl team – they were playing against Wells at Farrington the following week and wished to 'stake-out' the course – we knew we were in for a tough match.
Proceedings were interrupted on the picturesque twelfth hole when a flock of sheep broke through a fence and decided that the grass was greener on our fairway than on their own patch! Normality was eventually restored by Alex 'The Herder' Todd in his buggy! Match Result: Farrington 4, Orchardleigh 2.
Two evenly-matched teams will always bring out the best performances and this fixture was no exception. With Farrington Seniors as guests, Wells Golf Club were keen to avenge a 4–2 defeat earlier in the season. As in all local derbies, players were keen to be selected, but with a maximum of seven pairs, competition was fierce. With every match going to at least sixteen holes, Wells ran out worthy winners. Match Result: Wells 5, Farrington 2.
Another fine day greeted Farrington on their visit to Tall Pines. A friendly bunch of guys who always make you feel welcome. A good win away from home. Match Result: Tall Pines 1½, Farrington 4½.
With a number of our team members playing in various Senior Opens, it was left to non-regulars to step up to the plate. A thoroughly convincing whitewash of Shirehampton Park ensured the continuing run of 57 home matches undefeated. Match Result: Farrington 7, Shirehampton Park 0.
With the threat of rain in the air, waterproofs and brollies were once again part of the golfers' requisite apparel. This fixture at Woodspring is in the balance. Currently a 27-hole complex, Wimpy now own the land with a view to huge development. Match Result: Woodspring 3½, Farrington 2½.
Round Two of the Seniors Somerset Rosebowl at Wells saw Farrington defeat Stockwood Vale by 3½–1½ and they will now play Wells, who defeated Orchardleigh at Farrington some 24 hours later.
