After all the torrid weather and seemingly never-ending torrential rain of late, we were pleased to see our Ladies Morning on Thursday blessed with blue skies and dry conditions.

The greenkeepers have done well to keep the course fit for play and, even with what Mother Nature has thrown at the course precipitation-wise, we were delighted to have the course open for play, allowing us to brush off the cobwebs and enjoy a game of golf.

With the first five and the twelfth hole shut, the competition was played as a non-qualifying Stableford over twelve holes. 34 ladies took part, Lena Warren came first, with 25 Stableford points, Carol Jones came second, with 23 Stableford points, and Margaret Seery and Victoria Watts came third and fourth respectively, with 20 points on countback. Nadine Spong had a Two Spot on the fifteenth hole.

Farrington Park Seniors played in their first Wednesday competition of the New Year and it is sincerely hoped that the conditions and weather experienced does not set the stage for more of the same.

Indeed, it was amazing that any golf at all was played and the staff had worked hard to provide at least twelve holes of golf. The format of the day was a Bowmaker Competition, with the best two scores from the teams of three to count. Whilst exceedingly wet underfoot, the competition was played without rain until the last team had completed their round, then once again the heavens opened.

Nearest the Pin Comp-etition: 8th hole, Ken Hutton, 14th hole, Bob Baker, 15th hole, Richard Clarke.

Results of the Bowmaker Competition: First, Leo Seddon, Peter Barnes and Malcolm Brooks, 58 points, second, Rob Thain, Richard Clarke and Eric Nott, 55 points (countback), third, Simon Wellington, Colin Robinson and Graham Robinson, 55 points, fourth, Brian Brown, Steve Cook and Mike Astle, 55 points, fifth, Bob Baker, Nigel Punchard and Tim Waller, 54 points.
