After the Captain-Elect for 2013 was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma only days before he was due to start his year, the Junior, Senior, Lady and Club Captains at Farrington Park Golf Club all decided to adopt Macmillan Cancer Support as their shared charity.

All of the funds that are being raised are being channelled to local Macmillan causes and following a successful 'Big Charity Quiz' and a barbecue evening, the Captains are running a Charity Golf Day 'double' on 4th August.

Two competitions are being run – a 'shotgun' start Texas Scramble at 9 a.m. and a team Bowmaker from 1 p.m. The Captains have organised a range of sponsorship and some spaces are still available, both visitors and members are welcome. Club Captain, Clive Stilwell, said: "We are raising money for Macmillan every week, but running a big golf day for members and visitors has always been in our plans. We have a great event arranged for 4th August – the morning competition will be followed by a meal and presentations and then the afternoon event will start on both the first and tenth tees so that players can all attend the evening prize-giving. There will be some fantastic prizes for both events as well as a superb hole-in-one prize.

Anyone interested can download the forms on the club website or send me an email at: [email protected]">[email protected] We would like to see as many people as we can enjoy a great day's golf and help a really worthwhile charity."

Any local companies who might be interested in sponsoring a hole for the day or donating a prize can also contact Clive Stilwell at the email address above.
