Hearts were flying in all directions on the 'Hearts and Flowers' game, while the 'Hook a Heart' fishing game saw Cupid's arrows missing their target more often than not at Saturday night's Valentine's Evening.
A good time seems to have been had by all, even though we were a bit thin on the ground with only seven teams. Several of our normal teams had to cry off due to prior engagements – one couple even had to attend their daughter's wedding – I ask you, what sort of excuse is that!
As usual, the buffet supper was a veritable feast, with three delicious 'Valentine' cakes. Thanks go to all who supplied food and raffle prizes – you did us proud. Special thanks to Ann and Jo for coming along to help and Ken and Ann for doing the bar.
The prizes were carried off by the winning team of Steve and Janet Curtis and Ron and Val Bryant, while the 'winners' of the coveted wooden spoons were Rex and Val Padfield and Roger and Sue Coombes. Due to the fact that Team Curtis and Bryant seem to always win, we are considering a handicap system for our next quiz. So far, we've come up with a separate set of really hard questions just for them, or blindfolds, but any suggestions would be welcome!
The date for the Ladies' Spring Meeting is Saturday, 22nd March this year, so get it in your diaries, girls.
Our Subs Evening is the next event on our club calendar and this will take place on Saturday, 15th March. It was great to see so many members attend this last year, so let's see if we can do it again this time. There will be a ploughman's supper, which you need to book with Ann Woodham, and lots of time for a few drinks and a good old natter. It's a great time to remember all those brilliant woods you put up last season and, of course, all your mate's rubbish ones!
