Norton played host to the Swindon side, Supermarine, at Norton Down in bright sunshine last weekend.
Norton started quickly and were soon on the scoreboard with a try from Moon, who supported well following a line break from fly half, Sinden. Norton's dominant scrum and good driving maul gave them a great base to take control of the game. This control allowed scrum half, Sam Knight, to give the backs good quick ball; Robbie Fuller and Ross Miller made the most of this with powerful runs. Captain, Matthew Denning, scored a hat-trick of tries off of the Norton line-out. The forwards were enjoying themselves, finding spaces to run into, this was epitomised by prop, Matthew Edgell, when finding himself in the winger's position, sold an outrageous dummy to beat the man in front of him to continue the attack.
The second half saw Supermarine make the most of the slope and spent long periods of time in the home side's territory. They were unable to add to the three points they gained in the first half, as the home side's defence held firm and gave few penalties away. As the light started to fail, Norton finished the game with a flourish, scoring two converted tries in the final few minutes. Dave Sawkins scored the penultimate try, following a break from Miller, who drew in the fullback and offloaded to Sawkins, who just needed to sidestep a covering tackler to score under the posts. The final try came after full-back, Ben Moon, made a break up the top touchline, before feeding the ball to front row player, Gareth Williams, to score under the posts. Ben Taylor added the conversion.
Ten tries were scored in total, Denning (3), Miller (2), Button, Moon, Fear, Sawkins, Williams.
