One of Frank’s daugter, Jenny Hollow, one of the organisers of the event, told The Journal: “My Dad, Frank Blacker, was diagnosed with cancer in April last year and passed away just over a week later, a very short illness and it was an absolute shock for us all.

“Luckily, Dad was able to come home from hospital and he was cared for by Dorothy House, who were amazing with him and also the whole family, supporting my mum, me and my sisters through a very difficult time.

“The carers that came were so kind, caring and supportive, we really couldn't have got through the final days without them and I know Dad really appreciated the care given to him.

“We decided as a family to hold an event to raise money for Dorothy House as a way of saying thank you to them.

“The football match took place on Sunday, 8th May at Shepton Mallet Football Ground. It was a friendly match with teams made up of family and friends with the final score being 5-4 through penalties, so very tense at the end.

“The 'Frankie Blacker' cup was presented to the winning team by some of the grandchildren.

“All the family took part, either playing in the match or organising and running the raffle and a very successful sweet stall. We also had bouncy castles and food vendors at the event.

“We were overwhelmed with everyone’s generosity and the outstanding amount of £3,075 that was raised. We really did not expect to raise anywhere near that much but people were so generous!

“The football players paid to play and we sold so many raffle tickets!

“On Saturday, 28th May, we went to Dorothy House in Winsley to present them with the money and they were very grateful. It's such a worthwhile cause.”
