In the FA Youth Cup Qualifying Round, Paulton’s youngsters went out to a more experienced Wellington side, despite a very good display.

Rovers had the better of early play, and Tyler Kingman drove a shot across the goal area. Kingman gave Paulton the lead on 21 minutes, fastening on to a loose ball and slotting the ball into the net.

Wellington levelled after 34 minutes, as Sam Lever cut in from the left, and his cross sailed past Reg Watkins in the home goal. A minute later, Watkins saved a fierce shot by Jordan Sellick.

The second half saw Sam Metcalf bring a fine save from Wellington stopper Jared Holder. The visitors then had two great chances, as James Kitson missed the target with a header and then shot wide.

Lewis Bond-Kendall tested Holder, then found Metcalf – whose shot on target was deflected for a corner. Rovers missed a series of chances that should have seen them take the match.

However, with three minutes left, sub Chandler Enticknap evaded several lunging tackles to chip past Watkins, sealing the winner for Wellington.

Paulton manager, Josh Hurst, and his assistant, Jon Filer, were pleased with the display, as they face the Somerset Floodlit league season.
