PURNELL 3 PEN MILL 2
Purnell U15 girls travelled to Pen Mill for the first round of the league cup.
Both teams started well, but it was Pen Mill who scored first from a corner. Purnell did not let their heads drop and some good attacking football saw Jasmine score the equaliser from a tight angle. Purnell pushed on, and Jasmine scored her second of the match, despite a valiant effort from the goalkeeper, who injured herself in the process. With the end of the first half approaching, Pen Mill were awarded a penalty for a hand ball in the area to make it 2–2 at half-time.
Purnell stepped up a gear in the second half and the midfield continued to put pressure on the Pen Mill back line. Their efforts were rewarded when Abi was pushed over in the box, resulting in Jasmine slotting away the penalty and completing her hat-trick. The Purnell defence of Maia, Tilly, Lauryn, Ellie and Lisa stayed strong, and an excellent last gasp save from Jess in goal in the dying moments meant Purnell won 3–2.
They will face Clevedon in the next round of the Cup. Player of the Match went to Lauryn for an outstanding display in the back line.
