Frome Town Sports belied their lowly league position to earn a well-deserved draw away to third-placed Timsbury Athletic in the Somerset County League Division One East. It was a game that, overall, was as inspiring as the dank overhead weather conditions.

Frome made the first positive move, with a goalbound effort from Dan Whitley, which was deflected past the post. At the other end, the visitors had to be vigilant to clear a dangerous left wing cross from Craig Dowling, while Ellis Hancock shot just wide with a good effort. Whitley then came close again for Frome, and Billy Wright had a long-range shot comfortably held by home keeper, Jack Newman. Dowling had Timsbury’s best chance when he was put clear, but he failed to take advantage of the opening, scuffing his shot before Callum Taylor, who had another composed game at the heart of the home defence, saw a free-kick from just inside the Frome half evade everyone before striking the bar.

Early in the second half, a powerful shot from Wright whistled past the Timsbury upright while Whitley was just too high. A long free-kick from centre-back and Captain, Grant Aven, also cleared the Timsbury bar. A searching ball across the Frome goal from Dowling just evaded the advancing Jesse Bishop, and Dowling himself saw a crisp shot well held by Frome keeper, Kevin Connor. Frome substitute, Lewis Stevens, had a great chance to make a name for himself when he found himself unmarked at the far post, following an excellent Corey Thomas cross, but shot wide, and then late on, Ryan Metcalfe wasted a free-kick, shooting high and wide.
