Evo-Stik League Southern Division 1 South
Paulton Rovers (0) 0 v Evesham United (1) 2
Rovers slipped to another home defeat, this time at the hands of play-off-chasing Evesham United.
The visitors dominated the first half, due in no small part to the strong wind at their backs, but it was 34 minutes before they broke the deadlock when Marley Thomas found Adam Page on the edge of the box, who twisted and turned before beating Rovers’ keeper, Adam Forster, low to his right.
Forster had previously
denied ex-Rovers’ player, Shane Anson, twice, and Page with excellent saves, but could do nothing to prevent the goal. The hosts’ efforts were confined to two shots from Sam Jordan, both well off target.
United should have increased their lead on 55 minutes, as Rovers’ skipper, Jamie Laird, underhit his back pass, allowing Kane Simpson to round Forster but sent his shot over the bar.
Forster then made another fine save to deny Davies, but was beaten again on 61 minutes when Joe Turley crossed from the left and Rovers’ defender, Joe Hilliard, could only get a slight touch on the bouncing ball, but enough to send it past Forster and into the net.
In the 88th minute, substitute, Kye Simpson, missed an open goal for the visitors after great work from brother, Kane, but it never looked like proving costly, as the visitors ran out comfortable winners.
Scorers: Adam Page (34), Joe Hillard (o/g) 61. Star Man: Adam Forster (Rovers).
Attendance: 98.
