In this important match towards the foot of the Toolstation Division One League, it was the visitors who left with the important three points after costly mistakes were rued by Welton.

It was Corsham who took the game to Welton early on, but they were being caught offside time and time again. Welton’s response was a couple of corners from Chris Pile that were met by Will Hunter, his first header went straight into the grateful arms of keeper, Chris Snoddy and his second header went wide.

Corsham took the lead on fifteen minutes, when an attack down the right saw the ball delivered into the mix where the Welton keeper managed to palm the ball away, but Tony McElhonde was first to react and he powered the ball into the Welton net close range.

Welton responded to this early setback and Aaron Seviour twisted and turned and mesmerised the Corsham defence before his final shot was saved by Snoddy. This was followed up by a cracking effort from Pile that flew inches wide as Welton pressed for the equaliser.

Just before the half-time whistle, Corsham got their second in disastrous fashion for Welton. A free kick forty yards out on the right was struck by central defender, Marcus Brown, and the ball flew into the six-yard box and Phillips went up to catch it. He got his gloves on the ball, but it slipped out of his grasp and it trickled over the goal line to give the visitors a half-time cushion of two goals.

Welton pressed Corsham in the second half, and the lively Seviour was causing the Corsham defence problems with his pace and a cross from Seviour was met by Reuben Hobbs, but he headed wide of the target. Corsham dropped right back to defend their lead. A long ball over the top of the Corsham defence found Seviour, and he was unlucky to see his guided shot thump against the post.

Shakel Green then saw his shot saved by Snoddy as Welton kept up the pressure. Their efforts were rewarded when Corsham failed to cut out a loose ball and it fell to Brad Whittock on the right and the youngster drilled his shot past Snoddy and into the Corsham net to give Welton hope. It was all Welton, but the visitors were happy playing deep and soaking up everything Welton could throw at them.
