Timsbury Athletic Football Club are delighted to announce full perimeter safety barriers will be erected in time for their home season, commencing in September. After narrowly missing out on promotion to Step 7 of the Football Association hierarchy last season, which stipulates safety barriers must be provided, the club have none the less moved forward with this ambitious project.
Several months ago, the club embarked on a massive fundraising campaign, which was well supported. In addition, a number of advertising boards have been sponsored by several local businesses, to whom the club are massively indebted. The Sperring Trust have also been most generous with their support.
Local Independent Councillor, Doug Deacon, who has always shown a keen interest in local sport, was able to allocate £2,500 from his Initiative Fund to help make the project a reality. Cllr Deacon, when briefed about the project, was quick to realise how the local young player base would benefit and demonstrate the ambitions of the club. A number of current senior players are products of Timsbury Athletic’s thriving youth teams – many more young players will be making their senior debuts this coming season. The club have entered an ‘A’ team in the Mid-Somerset League this season, such is the ground swell of interest in moving this thriving club forward.
Timsbury Athletic would like to thank the guidance and support from the Conygre Trust who manage the Recreation Field in Timsbury.
Doug Deacon, on inspecting the works to date said: “I am delighted to provide funding from my members’ Initiative Fund to allow Timsbury Athletic Football Club to purchase safety barriers. I wish the Timsbury Sports Clubs every success in the future.”
