FROME TOWN LADIES 4 ASH RANGERS 0

Frome Town Ladies were on the road again with a trip to Ash Rangers, hoping to take the spoils and secure the League title.

The rearranged fixture took place on a perfect 3G pitch at Huish, where Frome had the wind in their faces for the first half, so football on the deck was the order for the day.

Three minutes into the game, Frome took the lead with Underhill tucking away a lovely through-ball from Petteford into the bottom corner to settle the nerves of Justin, prowling the touchline.

Both teams spent the next forty minutes trying to get the ball down and play in a tight affair in midfield, with Frome’s defenders dealing with any of Ash’s forward advances with hard work and determination.

Ash’s main threat seemed to come from their long throw-ins, but Restorick marshalled her six-yard box adequately.

With the second half underway, the next goal was an important one and on fifty minutes, Seviour and Underhill combined well to steal the ball from Ash’s main playmaker deep in the home team’s half on the right, leaving Underhill to turn goal-provider; this time feeding Petteford, whose well-placed shot with the outside of her right foot nestled nicely in the bottom corner.

Frome now looked solid right from the back, and camped high in the Ash half looking to grab more goals. On 57 minutes they did just that, when the impressive Harris spotted the home keeper off her line and instinctively shot into the top corner from 25 yards out, leaving the keeper a spectator.

Frome, now with all the possession, grabbed a fourth after a quick throw-in from Ratcliffe found Underhill, who fed Seviour down the right, who in turn picked out Christmas in the box to score her first of the game.

Well done to the whole team today; worthy champions and a top performance by all to take the League title in style, with the Player of the Match chosen by Kevin Snelgrove going to Harris for her energy in midfield and great finish. Also, a big thank you to Dom Etherden and Mark Bevan for their generous match sponsorship and support.

Frome’s last League game isn’t until Sunday, 7th April, away aginst Portishead Reserves.
