Paulton Rovers’ fourteen-year-old Assistant Media Officer and student at Somervale School, Ciaran Skinner, has been interviewing the management and team on their highs and lows of the season, as well as their aims for 2018/19.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, many of the players and coaching staff agreed that facing Swindon Supermarine away in the FA Cup was their highlight of the season. Rovers came back from 2–0 down to win 3–2 against Swindon in the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round. Likewise, many members of the club said losing 1–0 to local rivals, Mangotsfield away in February, was their low point.
The general consensus in the club is to work harder in pre-season training, and attempt to end next season in the top ten (top six in Manager, Jon Rendell’s mind) or the play-offs, and, as Assistant Manager, Paul Tovey puts it, to “do the club justice.”
John Rendell has also announced his first new signing – Ben Withey from Frome Town, who came through the Bristol Rovers Academy system. Ben’s father, Graham, played in the football league for Bristol Rovers, as well as a handful of games for Bristol City and over 130 appearances for Bath City. Ben will join the rest of the retained squad when pre-season training starts in late June.
