Welton Rovers are pleased to confirm the appointment of Jared Greenhalgh as First Team manager for the 2019/20 season. Greenhalgh takes the Rovers helm following the caretaker tenure of Nick Beaverstock for the second half of the 2018/19 campaign.
Greenhalgh agreed to take the managerial post in March, allowing him the opportunity to watch several Rovers matches as the season came to a close. The new manager was very pleased with what the club has in place, and believes the retention of the current squad, augmented by a couple of players in key positions, will see Rovers set to challenge at the top end of the table in the coming season.
Greenhalgh has substantial Western League experience, having achieved impressive fifth and third-placed finishes in the First Division with Cheddar FC during his time with the Cheesemen from 2014-17. After eighteen months away from management, during which he has continued to keep a keen eye on Western League football, Greenhalgh sees the Rovers hotseat as the right job to bring him back to management.
The new manager’s experience at youth football level is also a huge positive for the club. Having managed for several years at affiliate club, Midsomer Norton Youth, and being based in Chilcompton, Greenhalgh has a great knowledge of the best young prospects in the Midsomer Norton area from the past years.
Welton Rovers Chairman, Malcolm Price, said: “I’ve long admired Jared as a manager, having watched many competitive matches involving his sides in the past. We’re looking forward to the positive and professional approach to football that he will instill in our team.”
Greenhalgh added: “I am pleased to join such a good club with a long history. I’ve been associated with Welton for all my coaching life and hopefully myself and the team can work hard to bring some success back to the club. I hope the brand of football will endear the team to the fans, who are undoubtedly the most voracious in the League.”
There are no changes to the managerial staff for the other sides, with the club delighted that Paul Poiner has taken the Reserve Team Manager’s role on a permanent basis, and Aaron Seviour will continue in charge of the successful Under-18s team.
Welton Rovers have a competitive pre-season schedule planned out, with the following friendly fixtures confirmed before the season kicks off on Saturday, 3rd August:
• Tuesday, 16th July vs Shepton Mallet (home)
• Saturday, 20th July vs Paulton Rovers (home)
• Thursday, 25th July vs Bitton (away)
• Tuesday, 30th July vs Fry Club (home)
Pre-season training for all Welton Rovers sides will begin on Tuesday, 25th June at St John’s School, Midsomer Norton. Anybody interested in joining the club is invited to attend.
